Somethings are very challenging, and understanding non-fiction texts are one of them. Last year these students understood the difference between fiction and Non-Fiction. This year we are starting off with a huge challenge, identifying what non-fiction text features help find information in a text.
We always set our challenges high, and we discussed how important it was to take the time to identify these elements.
But one step at a time... Rushing it was not part of the planning. Since day one of the challenge, we are slowly identifying them, and understanding how they help us find what we need when we are researching.
As a group, we decided the most important of the features, and have begun the process of identification of the features as well as working on the vocabulary.
Each group is working at their own pace, identifying, understanding each aspect and working together.
